As well as fighting against crime in Sheffield, PC Jenny McCabe is also leading the force’s fundraising effort for national assistance dog charity Support Dogs.

Snig Hill Police Station in Sheffield city centre has made Support Dogs its charity of the year and Jenny and her colleagues are keen to keep up the fundraising momentum.

Jenny, a police constable with the Broomhall neighbourhood team, based in Snig Hill, was one of a number of officers from the force to successfully complete Sheffield 10K in September on behalf of the charity.

“Six of us from my team in Broomhall and Central neighbourhood teams plus the university’s officers did the run and we absolutely loved it,” says Jenny. “And it’s whetted our appetite to do more so we’re now  looking ahead to doing the next Sheffield Half Marathon in April next year. My colleague Freddie is threatening to wear the famous dog suit!

“We all love dogs – I have two rescue dogs from Romania - and Support Dogs is a small local charity doing amazing work, so we’re really happy to support what they do.”

Zip, the charity’s ambassador dog is already a big favourite with Snig Hill staff, who have also been raising money from cake bake sales. More than £600 has been raised so far.

Anyone who’d like to contribute can do so via the team’s JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jennifer-mccabe2

Support Dogs is a national charity based in Sheffield, which trains assistance dogs for people with autism, epilepsy and physical disability, enabling them to lead safer, more independent lives.
