Making a will is one of the most important things you can do to protect your loved ones. Through our partnership with the National Free Will Network, you can write a simple will for free, with guidance from a qualified solicitor.

Here’s how the process works, step by step.

Step 1

Send an Enquiry Through Our Website Start by completing the enquiry form on our website.

This only takes a few minutes and asks for basic details such as:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Phone number

Once submitted, your details are securely shared with the National Free Will Network, who manage the free will-writing service on our behalf.

Step 2

Receive Information from the National Free Will Network

After your enquiry, the National Free Will Network will contact you by post. You’ll receive:

  • Clear information about how the free will service works
  • A list of local solicitors in your area who offer free will writing appointments
  • Your official National Free Will Pack, including the ‘yellow form’

This ensures you can choose a solicitor that’s convenient for you.

Step 3

Choose a Solicitor and Book Your Appointment

Once your pack arrives, you can contact any of the recommended solicitors listed to book your appointment. You’re free to choose the solicitor you feel most comfortable with, and appointments are arranged directly between you and the solicitor.

Step 4

Bring Your Yellow Form to the Appointment

Inside your National Free Will Pack, you’ll find a yellow form. This form allows you to write your simple will for free.

You can:

  • Fill it in at home before your appointment,

or

  • Complete it with your solicitor during the appointment

Bringing this form with you is essential, as it confirms your eligibility for the free will service.

Step 5

Write Your Will with a Solicitor

During your appointment, your solicitor will guide you through the will-writing process and ensure your wishes are:

  • Clearly written
  • Legally valid
  • Properly recorded

This is also the stage where you can choose to include a gift to Support Dogs, if you wish. There is no obligation to leave a gift in your will - but many people choose to do so as a way of supporting future generations of people and dogs.

What Is a “Simple Will”?

A simple will is a straightforward legal document suitable for uncomplicated personal and financial circumstances. It sets out how your estate should be distributed after your death. Please note: More complex wills or mirror wills may incur additional charges. Your solicitor will explain this clearly before you proceed.

Why People Choose to Include Support Dogs in Their Will

Many supporters choose to leave a gift in their will because it:

  • Helps train and support life-changing assistance dogs
  • Supports people affected by autism, epilepsy, or disabilities
  • Gives rescued dogs a second chance at a meaningful life
  • Even a small gift can make a lasting difference.
