Confirmation we have received your interest Thank you so much for registering your interest in our autism programme. Once we have a date confirmed for the next information day we send you an email alert which will enable you to invite you to apply for a place at it. Spaces at these information days are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis to those that meet the programme criteria. What happens next? 1. When space becomes available on our waiting list an email is sent out. This contains a reminder of our criteria and invitation to apply to attend an information day. Places are limited on our information days and are given on a first come first served basis. 2. Following the information day full application packs will be given out to those wishing to apply. This needs to be completed and returned within 6 weeks. After submitting the application pack there are a number of assessment stages that need to be completed before a client is accepted on the programme. 3. Once our clients have been accepted they then wait to be given a date to start training. Support Dogs’ policy is to limit the number of clients accepted on to our programme at any one time, so their wait is no longer than two years. 4. As training begins the family and child may be introduced to a number of dogs before being matched to one that is suitable. Training with the family will then take about 9 months including some residential training for the main dog handler (one parent) at our centre and continuation of this training at home. We will keep you up to date with our work and news of events and other activities you may want to join us with. Our charity relies entirely on voluntary donations. Last year we received over 4,000 requests for help and due to our limited funding and resources, we can currently only help approximately 1 in every 100 people who contact us. We are extremely grateful for anyone who can help raise funds for our charity so we can help more people. If you are interested in assisting with fundraising please email [email protected] for information on how you can get involved.
